A woman’s face is covered by her hands. She has perhaps seen better days. Her hands and face are badly cracked in a number of different places. There has been some significant peeling. There is a weariness to this piece that hits you in the gut, and stays with you for a long time to come. She is showing us what we do when we fail to confront racism. She is showing us that even if we aren’t turning an actual blind eye to the horrors, our silence is essentially the exact same thing. This is a profound statement that reminds us to do better. .
