The Ferrari 250 GTO is a legend on four wheels. This super-fast and sleek Italian sports car has set many records in its racing career. The first of which is the speed of the vehicle. It can reach speeds of over fifty miles per hour and even more when the right gear is fitted. The second is the fact that this car was never meant to race on the street, it was designed as a race car and to prove it to the rest of the world, Ferrari has built a great secret race track at the Palm Beach Grand Prix course, on dry land. The third legend is that the car once won a great race on this track, but with the engine problems, it never reclaimed the victory.
The fourth legend is the history of this race. It was run for two weeks in early 1964. The organizers had asked for cars with factory engines, so they could gather data on the performance of these and use it to make adjustments for the race. During the first week, there were problems with the rear air dam. These problems led to a big mess, with the race being canceled completely. However, the following week, everything worked out great, and the 250 GTO was back on the track, winning eleven out of the twelve races it was in.
The last legend is that you have to be close to this car to feel its greatness. You must know what it is like to race it. Many people have the dream to own a Ferrari, but to be able to experience driving one is something else. For some, this may just be too much of a task.
