Prohibited to dive.psd
Inspired by the pool series by British artist David Hockney, I made this painting.
You see a girl in a bathing suit at the edge of a pool; She is standing there all alone and you can see her hesitating; She feels like diving into the water but there is a text on the wall. Please do not jump it is written in red letters. The girl doubts whether she will follow the request not to jump. However, she is already slightly bent over ready to jump into the cooling water.
This painting seems an innocent everyday scene but I want to express something deeper.
The pool has a wrinkle-free water surface which symbolizes life in a carefree society. The girl stands on the edge of this life. She knows that if she jumps there are going to be waves in this life and the text next to hate holds a warning. Don't do it says the text. The girl does not know what the consequences are going to be if she jumps into life recklessly. She hesitates. Is she going to obediently follow the advice and have a secure safe and boring future, Or does she jump?
This is the question we all ask ourselves at one time or another.
Do I do it or don't I do it?
