The De Tomaso Pantera from 1971 a true sports car is an Italian sports car that was the very first and only car to win the 24-hour classic race. It also holds the distinction of being the first car to cross the finish line of the Le Grand Prix in Italy. The De Tomaso didn't really take off in its class due to financial problems and the rest of the Italian classic car makers found their way into the race by putting out new cars that were faster and more technologically advanced than the Pantera.

The De Tomaso however never managed to regain the speed it had in its first race and after a few seasons the car was withdrawn from the sport. Only time will tell if the revived De Tomaso can equal the achievements of the originals and if it will be able to challenge for supremacy once again.
