Rolls-Royce is a British manufacturer of cars and aircraft engines. The company was founded in 1906 and went bankrupt in 1971 as a result of sky-high development costs for the RB211 turbo fan. This led to the nationalisation of the company and in 1973 the automobile division was hived off as Rolls-Royce Motors. Rolls-Royce Limited itself was privatised again in 1987 under the name Rolls-Royce plc.
